‘The tradition of all the dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brain of the living. And just when they seem engaged in revolutionising themselves and things, in creating something that has never yet existed, precisely in such periods of revolutionary crisis they anxiously conjure up the spirits of the past to their service and borrow them names, battle-cries and costumes in order to present the new scene of history in this time-honoured disguise and borrowed language. ‘[1]
We, the generation of Abo-Siyayinyova, hereby take our place on the information superhighway.
Today, we deliberately place our ideas, activities, discussions, debates, speeches, reviews, programmes, photographs, events, profiles and stories in the public domain; not merely for visibility, but for transparency, collaboration and shared progress.
It is with a tremendous sense of pride and achievement that we launch this communication platform; a space for engagement, sharing, learning and knowledge-building.
This platform marks a new chapter in how we connect with one another, how we document our work, and how we invite others to participate in the journey ahead. Through it, we affirm our commitment to openness, participation and collective growth.
May this platform serve as a bridge between generations, a record of our efforts, and a living space for ideas, dialogue and action. Each revolutionary generation mission and methods get handed over and improved for purpose. Revolutionary Generations:- Amabuthu of the battle of Isandlwane, Amavolontiya of 1945, Imbhokodo of 1955, Umgwenya of the Wankie Campaign, Abo- Azikhwelwa of 1976 and Abo-Siyayinyova and Young Lions of the 80s and 90s.
The establishment of a democratic people’s education remains an unfulfilled mission. It is in this regard that the students of that epoch, the generation of student activists of the period between 1979 and 1990 in Soweto have established the Each One Teach One Foundation, on 13 May 2012, as a vehicle to pursue this historic mission. It is on their behalf that we launch this platform. Let us emphasise that we are tasked by history to ensure that peoples education for peoples’ power is fulfilled. South Africa is still to experience free, equal and dynamic education for all!
The degeneration of the schooling system in Soweto, the exodus of children from the Soweto schools relocating to the City and surrounding wealthy suburbs has resulted into more than 200 empty schools. This by definition is a crisis in the Soweto education system.
Our freedom remains shallow if it is without restoration of dignity and power to our people. We aim to work with all our people to restore their own dignity and pride. We call on the people of Soweto, Gauteng and the country, to join us in a discourse to deal with all these issues once and for all. EOTOF asserts that issues like curriculum content, school governance, financial aid, socialisation of our schools and most importantly, how we revive and translate Soweto schools into centres of excellence need immediate and urgent attention.
We owe it to future generations to at a minimum, produce an Education Charter with free, dynamic and compulsory education at its foundation, and combat the youth unemployment challenge.
We should be disappointed, and even embarrassed @how the democratic state is handling undocumented immigrants. We created this mess, our people are solving it themselves, we should be thanking them.
Our unity, Comrades, is sacrosanct and I wish to reiterate that as espoused in the paper that I delivered four years ago. It is in that paper titled, “Negation of the negation” wherein I stated that:
By its very definition, Unity is the union of two or more different particles that would vary in size, content and other dimensions; as they merge to form one unit. In human terms, it is about the sense of common purpose and often times , working with people one might not like and who, in turn might not like one.
Our understanding as the generation of Abo-Siyayinyova is that Freedom means a life without hunger, a life without poverty, a life without ignorance and superstitions, but a life with access to education, a life with access to business opportunities, a life with social comfort, a life without prejudice, a life with challenges and many possibilities to overcome setbacks.
Over and above, we cherish a life with hope and the desire to live. To achieve meaningfulness of life, and sense of purpose. All in all, a life for our people to be genuinely happy. We just cherish happiness. The struggle for the transformation of South Africa can only be pronounced victorious once these cherishment are realised.
The national liberation struggle has achieved the creation of enabling environment. What is left however, is to consolidate a detachment equal in strength, understanding, and determination to struggle against these odds
Aluta Continua! EACH ONE TEACH ONE
